Methyl methacrylate (MMA) originated in dental industry to make crown and bridges. Due to its nature, in liquid state MMA should not come in contact with skin, however in solid state it can be handled very easily and hence is used by orthopaedic doctors for joint replacement procedures. In late 70s some nail technicians started using MMA to make acrylic nails as it was cheaper compared to the other alternatives. Bisphenol A (BPA) is an industrial substances used to make polycarbonate resins and epoxy resins. This can be attributed to the increasing domestic phenol- acetone capacity, and start-up of new plants owned by Shanghai Sinopec Mitsui Chemicals, CEPSA Quimica, and Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp. These three plants located in eastern china have phenol capacity of producing 800000 tonnes of acetone per year. Imports of acetone in china is questionable if international players do not willingness to match the prices of the domestic acetone producer.
