Vancouver, August 29 — Are you a current student or a recent graduate looking for a connection to the world of work? If the answer is yes, then look no further. The Vancouver-based start-up announces the launch of their new web-based platform called GradsLikeMe. Designed to help students and new graduates connect with employers, the goal of GradsLikeMe is to fight Canadian youth unemployment by bridging the gap between forward-thinking employers and eager job seekers.

Similar to social media platforms like LinkedIn, GradsLikeMe asks users to set up online profiles showcasing their accomplishments, experiences, and personal interests; allowing them to demonstrate their job-related skills and competencies rather than just listing bullet points on a resume. GradsLikeMe is also unique. Not only is their platform exclusive to university students and alumni, user profiles are also private, and can only be viewed by employers and recruiters on their site.

When employers sign-up, they are invited to create a free employer profile and branding page, where they can promote their company culture, and post jobs and other career-related information. Recruiters can also use the built-in applicant tracking system to filter through and manage their own database of applicants, and search students and recent grads directly from the site.

“A degree just isn’t enough in 2016. Experience and connections are what matters most,” said GradsLikeMe Marketing Director, Allen Quinn. “As a recent graduate myself, I struggled for quite a while to find an employment opportunity in my field, and I see my friends and colleagues also having the same difficulties,” Quinn continued. “One of the exciting features of GradsLikeMe is the simplicity of getting your work and skills out there, as opposed to sending out generic resumes. With our new resume templates and video resume feature, job seekers can now stand-out even more when applying for jobs,” added Quinn.

GradsLikeMe is also working closely with government organizations, business associations, and educators to help create awareness about their platform. Most recently, Paul D. Smith, the former Executive Director for the Canadian Association of Career Educators and Employers (CACEE) also joined GradsLikeMe. As their new advisor, Paul Smith brings a wealth of experience and knowledge about campus recruiting and career education. “GradsLikeMe represents an exciting new development in the online recruiting and experiential learning space. By combining ePortfolios with classroom experience, they provide employers with greater insight to the candidates they seek,“ said Smith.

“With over 200 companies already signed-up, we’re really happy to see the support and need for our platform. From student debt to housing affordability, young Canadians are facing far greater challenges than ever before. We want to ensure they have access to as many jobs and opportunities as possible. As the only platform of its kind in Canada, I can’t imagine a better tool for students and employers to use,” said Paul Brar, Co-Founder and CEO of GradsLikeMe.

As part of their commitment to youth, GradsLikeMe is offering free job postings to all registered employers for the remainder of 2016. Learn more about GradsLikeMe at and check out their explainer video here.
