MVJ College of Engineering Bangalore Hosted Tomorrow’s Engineer Workshop
Engineering education is much talked subject in the Country since many of the engineers who come out of the colleges do not possess the needed skills to solve the practical problems. To find the engineering solutions to problems require proper orientation. Keeping this factor in mind some of the prominent professionals and educationists who have spent several decades in building the systems and also in training the students with specific focus on the problem solving have conceived an interesting programme termed as “Tomorrow’s Engineer”. Education worldwide is slowly becoming outcome oriented than syllabus driven. Expecting a graduating student to be able to perform is outcome orientation and these aspects have been addressed in the programme.
In the case of an Engineer the expectation is that he or she has to offer elegant and cost effective solutions to many of the problems. Particularly in the case of societal problems it is important to find the locally relevant, environmentally friendly solutions. This calls for an ability to keenly observe the world we live in, to notice the problems that need solutions, perseverance to find solutions, ability to interact with all stakeholders, an awareness of the environment and above all an ability to be creative. Tomorrows Engineer was an event that aims to sensitize students of engineering towards finding the engineering solutions to many of such problems and introduce them to a broad framework for engaging with many practical problems.
Tomorrows Engineer is conceived as three day intense programme where these eminent professionals from industry and academia with immense experience in creating solutions to many complex engineering problems attempt to improve their skills in finding the right solutions. It is expected that at the end of this programme the participating students and faculty members would get the needed training and basic skills in attempting the solutions for many of the practical problems. Some of the prominent experts who took part in this programme include Dr. Kota Harinarayana, former Programme Director, Aeronautical Development Agency, Bangalore,Prof. K Sudhakar, Retd Prof, Department of Aerospace Engineering, IIT_Bombay, Dr. BN Suresh, Former Director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram, among other prominent personalities.
