EOI for Funding, Design, Review and Construction of Rupingazi Multipurpose Water Project
TWSB hereby invites Expression of Interest (EOI) from qualified Development Consortium with capacity to source for Funds, Design, Review the Feasibility Studies, and carry out detailed design and construction of the project. The proposed Rupingazi dam is on Rupingazi River in Mbeere South. Embu County. It is proposed to serve parts of Mavuria, Gachuriri, Karaba, Gategi, Riakanau and entire Mwea area, Gichiche, Kiambere and Mutuobare in Mbeere South and parts of Mutitu in Mbeere North and Other areas in Kirinyaga County. The proposed multi-purpose dam site was carefully selected to facilitate the delivery of water through gravity and to all areas of the county which have been experiencing serious water shortages.
The Proposed project will include a dam of 28 million cubic meters Storage capacity, domestic water infrastructure to serve 120.000 people and irrigation infrastructure for approximately 1,800 Hectares. The designs have not been done yet; preliminary examination of topographical maps has however shown that it is possible to construct a dam on Rupingazi River.
Review of project design: The dam has not been designed. Detailed design must be undertaken by the Development Consortium.
Dams and Irrigation Infrastructure Design: i. Carry out socio-economic. Environmental. Geo-technical and hydrological study of the proposed works; ii. Carry out detailed Dam Design including the spillway and the intake structure; iii. Carry out detailed domestic and irrigation infrastructure works design; iv. Carry out an environmental and social impact assessment Study; v. Any other necessary works for project sustainability.
The pre-qualification/short listing criteria are: i. Ability to mobilize 150 million Dollars credit and grant for the project on acceptable terms. ii. Experience in implementation of two designs and build works of similar nature and complexity in the last 10 years. iii. Necessary equipment for construction of dam and irrigation infrastructure. iv. Experience in the African region. v. Availability of appropriate skilled staff including GIS expert, Water Engineer/Hydraulic Engineer, Irrigation Engineer, Structural Engineer, Geo-technical Engineer, Agricultural Engineer, Civil Engineer, Dam Expert, Water Resources Expert, Hydrologist, Agriculturalist/Agronomist, Land Economist, Health and Safety Expert, Construction Supervisors and Foremen etc.
